Goal of AHA principles and standards

The Australian Health Alliance (AHA) recognises the need for a statement of ethical principles to ensure health related web sites in association with Australian Health Alliance will uphold the following standards:

1. Accredited Association Membership

All therapists promoted through web sites should abide by the regulatory requirements and standards as outlined by their respective Associations which govern their professional practice.

2. Acknowledgement

Information contained on web sites will display clear references to source data and, where possible, have links to that data.

3. Transparency of Support

Support of funds, services or content for the site by both commercial and non-commercial organisations will be clearly identified.

4. Affiliates

Reasonable efforts should be made to ensure that sponsors, partners, or other affiliates abide by applicable law and uphold the same ethical standards as the Australian Health Alliance.

5. Advertising honesty & editorial policy

The Australian public should expect that sites provide accurate, well supported information when making decisions about their health care. All material used within a web site should clearly distinguish content intended to promote the sale of a product or service from educational or scientific content.

6. Justifiability

Any claims relating to the benefits of a specific treatment, commercial product or service will be supported by appropriate, balanced evidence. This should include the disclosure of any information that if known by consumers would likely affect understanding or use of a product or service.

7. Privacy

Web sites should adhere to Australian privacy laws protecting any individual identifiable information.
